The Jack Of Spades
The Jack (any pronouns) is quiet, sly and speaks in a whispered hiss. They are the respectfully nosey vice page to the fae court of Susurrations, a court that deals in offerings and passing information between the fae. They
Merlin (he/him) is blunt and practical though deeply artistic. He is an anxious tinkerer afflicted with an inability to sleep (or die) and so always has several hands-on projects to keep his overactive mind busy. He fixes engines, flies planes and paints abstract art that focuses on the motif of a haunting red fox.
German is Merlin's first language.
Kind, approachable and incredibly chaotic in nature
Not very hospitable, as he often forgets that others need to eat and sleep.
Tends not to hold grudges and is very receptive to genuine nonviolent conflict resolution
Although he's kind, he doesn't sensor himself or worry whether he is going to offend people who he feels are deserving of criticism for their actions or behavior. If he thinks you're stupid he will tell you, most likely by calling you a fool.
Does things wrong on purpose to get a rise out of people
Is literally just this image
Merlin struggles holding his tongue though isn't up for physical violence. He won't back down in the face of aggression and isn't afraid of harm, because even if it hurts, he physically cannot die. Quite often those seeking to kill him will injure themselves trying to hurt him, as it is the fastest way for the universe to put an attempted assassination out of commission.
What is it?
Coddiwomple is the name of the fictional world that I base my art and writing in, and it refers to all the ideas, creatures and characters therein. It's a project that I've been pottering away at for the past four-or-so years, with the help of my partner. It has given me something to focus on when my struggles get the better of me, and I'm excited to share its ideas and concepts with those willing to listen.
No but I mean, literally what is it?
A series of short stories, an occasional comic, a collection of poems, some pieces of music and a large gallery of illustrations. It's an overarching conceptual project within multiple mediums. I hope to publish my short stories when they're done for a donation of pay what you want, though my illustrations and music are available for free viewing on my twitter
My stories are often grim and don't always have conclusive endings. There are demons, fairies, and those inbetween. Fate and grief and loss and learning to live with the consequences that those things reap, without the obligation of explaining or excusing oneself. My work is personal and so explores gender nonconformity and neurodivergence without focusing on the conflict and stresses that folks like myself have to face in our day to day life. This world is and always will be an escape for me, and I want to reflect that for others.
