Whether or not you believe in such things, fate likes to gossip. She whispers her secrets into the stoic chimes of godmother clocks and cradles black cats by her breast. Whether or not you believe in such things, the fae like to listen, they turn their pointed smiles and eager ears to the face of their mother and listen to the whisperings of unknowable things.

A clock chimes in the distance.

What is it?

Coddiwomple is the name of the fictional world that I base my art and writing in, and it refers to all the ideas, creatures and characters therein. It's a project that I've been pottering away at for the past four-or-so years, with the help of my partner. It has given me something to focus on when my struggles get the better of me, and I'm excited to share its ideas and concepts with those willing to listen.

No but I mean, literally what is it?

A series of short stories, an occasional comic, a collection of poems, some pieces of music and a large gallery of illustrations. It's an overarching conceptual project within multiple mediums. I hope to publish my short stories when they're done for a donation of pay what you want, though my illustrations and music are available for free viewing on my twitter

Centric Themes

My stories are often grim and don't always have conclusive endings. There are demons, fairies, and those inbetween. Fate and grief and loss and learning to live with the consequences that those things reap, without the obligation of explaining or excusing oneself. My work is personal and so explores gender nonconformity and neurodivergence without focusing on the conflict and stresses that folks like myself have to face in our day to day life. This world is and always will be an escape for me, and I want to reflect that for others.

FAQs

Can I use your characters/concepts in my D&D campaign, or base my story arc around your ideas?
This is the question I receive most regarding my work, and the only thing I really ask is that D&D players use my ideas respectfully and with credit. These characters have been created by and for gender and neurodiversity, and should never be used in hateful ways, or ways that erase their identities.
DMs are more than welcome to use my characters as NPCs in their campaigns.
When will you have a book that I can read released?
I live a pretty disjointed life at the moment and do a lot of bouncing between two impermanent homes while I renovate a caravan to live in AND work towards safely immigrating my partner over from America in the middle of a pandemic. I potter away at my book almost every day but: please don't overhype it. It starts with a simple story and will be finished at it's own pace.
Can I draw your characters?
YES! I adore gift art and would love to see it!
Why is Jack sometimes called Lucille? What are their pronouns?
Lucille/The Jack Of Spades doesn't have an actual name. Their names were given to them by the humans they have interacted with over the years, and thus they have several names and titles.

They go by any pronouns (he/she/they/it)
They're a shape shifting dragon person whose body can change on a whim, and who thus has flexible ideas of self identity.
Was Jack inspired by Baba Yaga?
Yes! Baba Yaga, but also: Feldgeister, Fossegrim and Knucker folklore, Alan Moore's V for Vendetta, various Ghibli and Laika films, Nosferatu, it is a jumble and a mess of my favourite content.
