Having escaped a troubled home life to work driving a freight train, Merlin stumbled across and was contractually bound by a fairy, who requested he locate and head-hunt a creature called a jabberwocky.
His hunt lead him down a rabbit hole of mysteries and generational fairy drama, but was ultimately cut short when a strange creature pulled his train off its tracks and ripped it through the fabric of reality.
He should have died that day, but something quick and sly stammered the gears of fate.

Awakened from a two hundred year slumber, the jabberwocky entered a world very different to the one he left. Caught between warring fairy courts with a hunter on his heels and his father, the king of fate, pricking at his thumbs, The Jabberwocky found a hiding place in his strange, tunnel-like dimension that stretched through the middle and directly connected Upturn and Undercot.
He quickly gained the favour and help of powerful humans and fae who wished to use this tunnel for safe passage through the treacherous gap between worlds, The Middle.
